I’m so excited to teach this workshop, No Ego, on creative strategies that artists have developed to explore beyond the tyranny of the self! Are.na is my dream collaborator and this week they published an interview with me that talks about my approach to teaching and making art.

I’ve taken a few workshops myself, but I’m selective. I understand why someone might hesitate. Who else will be there? Will it be worth my time and hard earned money? Will it feel useful afterwards or only mildly entertaining in the moment? Why commit to anything as frivolous as strengthening my creative toolkit when the future is so uncertain? There are so many self-appointed “gurus” nowadays: what if it’s 90% bullshit and I leave feeling MAD!?
I can assure you: I don’t believe in gurus and there is ZERO bullshit in my workshop. I am allergic to bullshit, in fact. As an antidote to the inherent uncertainty in our collective present, showing up to the unknown with an open heart and mind is one of the best practices I can recommend for strengthening your ability to respond authentically to life’s inevitable chaos from a place of strength. This workshop is being held IRL for a reason: we want to create a space where people can connect. I want participants to leave bursting with ideas and feeling super resourced for the work ahead of them, whatever it may be. Gathering together is incredibly powerful and who knows where it will lead? We will find out together. It’s going to be so fun. See you in Brooklyn!
Are.na is on Substack, too.
